Meeting of judges to be summoned regarding implementation of death penalties: CJP

PESHAWAR: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nasirul Mulk on Thursday remarked that a meeting of judges will be summoned regarding implementation of death sentences for convicted terrorists. Chief justice said the killings of innocents children is condemnable and barbaric act.

The Chief Justice gave these remarks during visit to Peshawar High Court. He also offered fateha for victims of Tuesday’s terrorist attack on Army Public School in the city.
The moratorium on the death penalty in terror-related cases was ended on Wednesday following the Taliban orchestrated attack at the Army Public School in Peshawar.
There are 522 convicts on death row in prisons across Pakistan. Eleven of these prisoners were sentenced to death by army courts. 465 convicts are from Punjab, 14 from Sindh, 30 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 13 from Balochistan.
According to Interior Ministry sources, mercy pleas of 55 convicts on death row have been dismissed.
